2024 Rose of Pinot Noir

Rose wine was all the rage a few years ago. Every shop and restaurant you went into featured it prominently, and questionable concoctions like Frosé were created to capitalize on its popularity. As often happens with things that burn bright, it burned out and within a couple of years Rosé was not a thing anymore. But those of us who believed in dry Rosé all along are still plugging away, and perhaps now with less hype surrounding it, people can start taking it seriously again. Dry Rose made from good grapes can be a long lived, food friendly, versatile wine. Do not be misled by its pink color. It can, of course, be a pool side quaffer but it also goes with all kinds of food and is surprisingly good with richer fare. Good Rosé, and by that I mean Rosé with acid, balance, character and freshness (and no residual sugar) often has the tiniest hint of skin extract which gives it some backbone. In my case, the combination of fruitiness from the Pinot Noir and raciness from the Gamay is pretty irresistible. The 2024 is slightly more austere than the 2023, leaning a little towards mineral and savory, rather than fruity and floral. Don't sleep on this! It goes great with all manner of summer foods, looks pretty on the table and is reasonably priced. I only made 92 cases so it'll go fast. $20/bottle.
