Twenty years ago I took the plunge and started my own brand. For many years, I resisted the urge to have my own wine because I saw how much work it was to sell the stuff, and to comply with all the various legal requirements. It seemed that having my own wine would take me further away from the thing I like to do, which is making it. All that proved to be true, but in 2004 I decided to start making B. Kosuge Wines anyway. The first wine I made was The Shop. At the time, I wanted to make my wines as unpretentious as possible, regular wines for regular people. To a large extent that is still true but my inquisitive side got the better of me over the years and I couldn't help taking a more exploratory approach with The Shop. I hope that it is still an approachable wine that regular people like me can enjoy, even though the making of it has changed quite a bit. The short way to describe what changed over the years is that I matured, the vines matured, and the winemaking became simpler and more intuitive. To describe it in more detail would take more space than I have here. Try a bottle, or several, and it will tell you better than I can where I am at now. I will wait until the weather cools before shipping, likely early in October. As always, orders of 12 bottles or more will include shipping.
